Mumbai Metropolitan Zone
Full Form of MMZ
What is MMZ?
The Mumbai Metropolitan Zone (MMZ) is one of the three administrative zones created by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell for the purpose of state quota seat allocation in undergraduate medical, dental, and allied health courses under NEET counselling. It comprises the districts of Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. Students whose domicile or schooling is within these districts are categorized under MMZ and are eligible for seats reserved for this zone in government and private medical colleges. The zone system ensures equitable distribution of seats across different regions of Maharashtra. MMZ is widely discussed by NEET aspirants during the counselling process, as it determines eligibility and seat availability. Outside of education, the term is sometimes used in urban planning and real estate to refer to the larger Mumbai metropolitan area. For exam purposes, understanding MMZ is crucial for students applying to medical and dental colleges in Maharashtra, as incorrect zone classification can lead to loss of seat eligibility. The zone boundaries are defined by the state government and are updated periodically based on demographic changes.
