The All India Quota (AIQ) is a reservation policy in India that allocates a certain percentage of undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD/MS) seats in government medical and dental colleges to candidates based solely on their All India rank in the NEET entrance examination. Introduced in the 1980s by the Supreme Court to promote national integration and equal opportunity, AIQ currently covers 15% of UG seats and 50% of PG seats (excluding state-run institutions that opted out). The counseling for these seats is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) on behalf of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). AIQ cuts across state boundaries, allowing students from any state to compete for seats in colleges located in other states, thereby ensuring a merit-based pan-India selection.
