National Eligibility cum Entrance Test
Full Form of NEET
What is NEET?
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, widely known as NEET, is the single national-level medical entrance examination in India for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses. Conducted by the National Testing Agency, NEET-UG determines eligibility for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and veterinary programmes across government, private, and deemed universities nationwide. It replaced a multitude of state-level and private entrance exams, bringing uniformity and transparency to the medical admission process. The test is held once a year, typically in May, in pen-and-paper mode at designated centres across India and select foreign locations. NEET is mandatory for Indian students and those aspiring to study medicine abroad under Foreign Medical Graduate regulations. The exam tests Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from the NCERT syllabus, with a single correct answer format. Scoring high in NEET is crucial because it is the sole gateway for approximately 90,000 MBBS seats. Understanding NEET's pattern, cut-off trends, and reservation policies is essential for aspirants preparing for one of the country’s most competitive exams.
