Engineers Without Borders
Full Form of EWB
What is EWB?
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is an international non-profit organization that partners with communities in developing regions to improve their quality of life through sustainable engineering projects. In India, EWB has a strong presence through student chapters and professional networks, focusing on areas such as rural water supply, sanitation, renewable energy, and low-cost housing. The organization works closely with local stakeholders to design and implement solutions that are culturally appropriate, environmentally sound, and economically viable. EWB projects are typically carried out by volunteer engineering students and professionals who donate their time and expertise. The initiative began in the early 2000s and has since spread across many Indian engineering colleges, offering students hands-on experience in community development. EWB also conducts workshops, awareness campaigns, and fundraising events. For students appearing in competitive exams like GATE or campus placements, involvement with EWB demonstrates leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility, making it a valuable extracurricular addition to their profiles.
