Corporate Social Responsibility
Full Form of CSR
What is CSR?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to a company's commitment to manage its operations ethically and contribute positively to society, beyond its legal obligations. In India, CSR has gained significant importance after the Companies Act, 2013, which mandates that certain profitable companies spend at least 2% of their average net profits on CSR activities. This law applies to companies with a net worth of ₹500 crore or more, turnover of ₹1000 crore or more, or net profit of ₹5 crore or more. CSR activities in India typically focus on education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, rural development, and skill development. The concept is widely used in corporate reports, board meetings, and government compliance filings. For exams like UGC NET Commerce or MBA courses, CSR is a key topic under business ethics and corporate governance. It represents a shift from traditional philanthropy to strategic social investment, aligning business goals with societal welfare.
