What is SDG?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global objectives adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals address critical challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. In India, the SDGs are central to national planning and policy-making. The NITI Aayog acts as the nodal agency for monitoring and implementing these goals across states and union territories. The SDGs are used by government departments, NGOs, academic institutions, and businesses to align their strategies with global development targets. They are frequently referenced in school and college curricula, competitive exams like UPSC, and corporate sustainability reports. India's progress is tracked through various indices, including the SDG India Index. Achieving these goals by 2030 requires coordinated efforts from all sectors of society, making the SDGs a crucial framework for sustainable and inclusive development in the country.
