Explosive Ordnance Vehicle
Full Form of EOV
What is EOV?
An Explosive Ordnance Vehicle (EOV) is a specialized military vehicle engineered for the safe transportation, handling, and disposal of explosive devices, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance. In India, EOVs are operated by elite bomb disposal units of the Indian Army, the National Security Guard (NSG), and state police forces. These vehicles are heavily armored and equipped with robotic arms, X-ray scanners, and blast containment chambers, enabling operators to neutralize threats from a safe distance. EOVs are commonly deployed during counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and in high-security urban areas during VVIP movements or major public events. They are also used in response to bomb threats at airports, railway stations, and government buildings. The use of EOVs has significantly enhanced the capability of Indian security forces to deal with explosive threats while minimizing risk to personnel. For candidates preparing for defence services examinations such as the NDA, CDS, or SSB interviews, understanding the role of EOVs is important for general awareness and technical knowledge sections.
