Central Reserve Police Force
Full Form of CRPF
What is CRPF?
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is India's largest central armed police force, functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Established in 1939 as the Crown Representative's Police, it was renamed after independence and has since evolved into a multifaceted force tasked with maintaining internal security. The CRPF's primary role is to assist state and union territory police forces in law and order, counter-insurgency, anti-naxal operations, and counter-terrorism. It is deployed extensively in conflict zones like Jammu and Kashmir, Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, and the northeastern states. Additionally, the CRPF provides VIP security, guards critical infrastructure, and conducts election duties during national and state polls. During communal riots and natural disasters, it acts as a rapid response force for rescue and relief. The force is organised into various wings, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) for communal disturbances and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) for jungle warfare. For aspirants preparing for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, or CAPF, the CRPF is a significant topic under internal security and governance. Its motto, 'Service and Loyalty,' reflects its commitment to the nation's unity and integrity.
