Introduced by the Ministry of MSME on 1st July 2020, it replaced the earlier Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum system and has since become the single unified platform for MSME identification across the country. The entire process is paperless, free of cost, and can be completed online through the official Udyam Registration portal using the entrepreneur's Aadhaar number and the PAN of the business. Once registered, the enterprise receives a permanent identification number prefixed with UDYAM, along with a downloadable certificate. Holders of this certificate enjoy priority sector lending, lower interest rates, collateral-free credit under schemes like MUDRA and CGTMSE, preference in government tenders, and protection against delayed payments from buyers.
