District Industries Centre
Full Form of DIC
What is DIC?
The District Industries Centre (DIC) is a government agency established at the district level in India to promote and develop micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It serves as a single-window facilitation point for entrepreneurs, providing registration, subsidy disbursal, loan assistance, and technical guidance. DICs operate under the state industries departments and were introduced as part of the Industrial Policy Resolutions to decentralize industrial growth across rural and semi-urban areas. They play a critical role in implementing schemes like Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE). Entrepreneurs approach DICs for Udyam registration, land allotment, and project feasibility reports. The agency also conducts entrepreneurship development programs and skill training to foster local employment. With the government’s focus on ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, DICs have become vital in bridging the gap between policy and grassroots implementation. For competitive exams like UPSC, State PCS, and banking, understanding the functions of DICs is important under the topics of industrial policy and MSME development.
