Social Welfare Association
Full Form of SWA
What is SWA?
A Social Welfare Association, commonly abbreviated as SWA, refers to a non-governmental or community-based organisation dedicated to improving the living conditions of underprivileged groups in India. These associations typically operate at the local, district, or state level and focus on areas such as education, healthcare, women empowerment, child welfare, rural development, and skill training. In India, SWAs play a significant role in complementing government initiatives like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the National Social Assistance Programme, and various state-level welfare schemes. Many such organisations are registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 or the Indian Trusts Act of 1882, allowing them to receive government grants and foreign contributions through FCRA registration. SWAs often collaborate with district administrations, panchayati raj institutions, and international agencies to implement grassroots programmes. For competitive examinations, questions on social welfare organisations, their funding mechanisms, and their constitutional or legal backing under Indian law are frequently asked in UPSC, state public service commissions, and other government recruitment tests.
