Railway Protection Force
Full Form of RPF
What is RPF?
The Railway Protection Force, commonly known as RPF, is a central security force operating under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. Established in 1957 under the Railway Protection Force Act, its primary role is to protect railway property, passengers, and the vast infrastructure of Indian Railways across the country. The RPF is distinct from the Government Railway Police, which handles law and order on railway premises, as RPF focuses specifically on safeguarding railway assets and ensuring passenger security. RPF personnel are deployed throughout all railway zones in India and are responsible for escorting trains, preventing crime onboard, rescuing trafficked children through campaigns like Operation Nanhe Farishte, and assisting during natural disasters and railway accidents. The force also conducts passenger awareness drives on safety measures. For competitive examinations such as UPSC, SSC, and RRB, questions about RPF's role, structure, and the Railway Protection Force Act are frequently asked. RPF conducts its own recruitment examinations for constable and sub-inspector posts.
