What is RRB?
The Railway Recruitment Board, commonly known as RRB, is a government body under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, responsible for recruiting Group 'C' and Group 'D' posts across the Indian Railways network. Established in 1998 by merging the Railway Service Commissions, RRB functions through 21 regional boards located in major cities such as Allahabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Guwahati. It conducts large-scale competitive examinations including the RRB NTPC for non-technical popular categories, RRB JE for junior engineers, RRB ALP for assistant loco pilots, and RRB Group D for various level-1 posts. Millions of Indian aspirants apply every year, making RRB exams among the most competitive government recruitment tests in the country. The board ensures a transparent, merit-based selection process using computer-based tests, skill assessments, and document verification. For candidates, clearing an RRB exam means a secure central government job with attractive pay scales, travel concessions, and pension benefits, making it a highly sought-after career path in India.
