Officer Like Qualities
Full Form of OLQ
What is OLQ?
Officer Like Qualities (OLQ) refer to a set of 15 personality attributes evaluated by the Services Selection Board (SSB) for selecting officers into the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. These qualities include leadership, courage, initiative, sense of responsibility, and effective communication, among others. The concept is central to the SSB interview process, which is a five-day assessment comprising psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews. OLQ is used to gauge whether a candidate possesses the potential to lead troops and serve as an effective officer. In India, thousands of candidates appearing for the National Defence Academy (NDA), Combined Defence Services (CDS), and other entry schemes must demonstrate these qualities to pass the rigorous selection. The term is widely discussed in defence coaching centres and among aspirants preparing for the SSB. For exams like the CDS written test, understanding OLQ helps candidates align their preparation toward the subsequent interview stage. The SSB assessors rate each candidate against these 15 parameters, making OLQ the core criterion for officer selection in India’s defence forces.
