What is NDA?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the Army, Navy, and Air Force train together before they go on to their respective service academies for further pre-commissioning training. Located at Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra, it is the world's first tri-service academy. Established in 1954, the NDA symbolises jointmanship among the three services. Admission to the NDA is conducted through a highly competitive national-level examination held twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), followed by an extensive interview by the Services Selection Board (SSB). Only unmarried male candidates aged between 16.5 and 19.5 years and who have passed or are appearing in Class 12 are eligible to apply. The three-year training program at NDA culminates in a Bachelor's degree, after which cadets move to the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), Indian Naval Academy (Ezhimala), or Air Force Academy (Dundigal) for specialized training. NDA is a premier institution that grooms future leaders of the armed forces and is of utmost relevance for aspirants preparing for defence and UPSC examinations.
