National Education Library
Full Form of NEL
What is NEL?
The National Education Library (NEL) is a digital repository initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, launched to provide free and open access to a vast collection of educational resources for students, teachers, and researchers across the country. It aggregates textbooks, reference materials, video lectures, and interactive modules from boards like NCERT and state education departments, as well as content from platforms like DIKSHA and SWAYAM. The library is designed to support the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by bridging the digital divide and enabling lifelong learning. Users can access NEL through a dedicated web portal and mobile app, available in multiple Indian languages. It is widely used by school and college students for self-study, by teachers for lesson planning, and by aspirants preparing for competitive exams such as JEE, NEET, and UPSC. NEL plays a crucial role in democratising education in India, especially in rural and underserved areas. For exam relevance, familiarity with NEL can be useful for understanding government digital initiatives in General Awareness sections.
