National Digital Library
Full Form of NDL
What is NDL?
The National Digital Library (NDL) is a large-scale digital repository initiated by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It provides free access to a vast collection of learning resources including textbooks, articles, video lectures, audio books, and previous exam papers across multiple disciplines and educational levels, from school to postgraduate study. The NDL is designed to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to quality educational content for students, teachers, and researchers across India, especially those in remote or underprivileged areas. It aggregates content from various Indian and global sources, including NPTEL, SWAYAM, ePGPathshala, and institutional repositories. Users can search by language, subject, or educational level. The platform is particularly useful for preparation for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and NEET. It is accessible online and via mobile app. The NDL plays a crucial role in the government’s Digital India initiative and is widely used in schools, colleges, and self-learning environments. Its importance is frequently highlighted in education policy discussions and it serves as a reliable supplement to formal curriculum.
