Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds
Full Form of SWAYAM
What is SWAYAM?
SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a massive open online course (MOOC) platform launched by the Government of India in 2017 under the Ministry of Education. It aims to provide free, high-quality educational resources to students, teachers, and lifelong learners across the country, bridging the gap between formal and informal learning. The platform hosts courses from school (9th to 12th) to postgraduate levels, covering arts, sciences, engineering, humanities, and vocational skills. Courses are created by leading Indian universities and institutions like IITs, IISc, and NITs. SWAYAM uses a four-quadrant approach: video lectures, e-content, discussion forums, and self-assessment quizzes. It is accessible via web and mobile app, and many courses offer certificates upon completing exams (with a nominal fee). The platform is particularly relevant for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and UPSC as supplementary study material. In India, SWAYAM supports the National Education Policy 2020’s goal of digital learning and credit transfer. It is used by millions of students in rural and urban areas, enabling self-paced learning. For exam aspirants, SWAYAM provides structured content from expert faculty, making it a valuable resource alongside traditional coaching.
