Minority Job Quota
Full Form of MJQ
What is MJQ?
Minority Job Quota (MJQ) refers to a policy framework in India that reserves a certain percentage of government jobs and public sector positions for members of notified minority communities, including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis. The primary objective is to address historical socio-economic disparities and ensure equitable representation in public employment. The concept is rooted in Articles 15 and 16 of the Indian Constitution, which allow the state to make special provisions for backward classes, and has been implemented through various central and state government directives. MJQ is commonly discussed during policy debates, examination preparation (e.g., UPSC, state PSCs), and in legal contexts related to reservation. While the central government does not have a uniform nationwide minority quota, several states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala have adopted their own versions, often merged with OBC or SC/ST reservations. In exams, understanding MJQ is important for questions on social justice, constitutional provisions, and recent court rulings. The term frequently appears in current affairs and governance-focused sections of competitive exams.
