Lifelong Learning Initiative
Full Form of LLI
What is LLI?
The Lifelong Learning Initiative (LLI) is a policy framework and set of programmes aimed at promoting continuous education and skill development beyond formal schooling. In India, the LLI concept gained prominence with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises flexible learning pathways, credit banks, and online platforms to enable citizens to upgrade their skills throughout their lives. The initiative targets diverse groups including school dropouts, professionals, homemakers, and senior citizens, offering courses through digital modes such as SWAYAM, DIKSHA, and National Institute of Open Schooling. LLI is used by government agencies, universities, and private training providers to create modular, stackable courses that align with industry needs. For competitive exams like UGC NET and CTET, LLI appears as a key element of contemporary education reforms. The ultimate goal is to build a skilled workforce, reduce unemployment, and achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of quality education. By fostering a culture of lifelong learning, LLI supports India’s demographic dividend and prepares citizens for the rapidly changing job market.
