Joint Logistics Wing
Full Form of JLW
What is JLW?
The Joint Logistics Wing (JLW) is a tri-service logistics organisation under the Ministry of Defence of India, established to streamline and coordinate logistics across the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. Formed in 2001 as a result of the Kargil Review Committee recommendations, the JLW is headquartered in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. Its primary role is to provide integrated logistics support during joint military operations, including transportation, supply chain management, and maintenance of equipment. The JLW operates through area-oriented logistics hubs and ensures efficient use of resources by pooling assets from all three services. It is actively used in peacekeeping missions, disaster relief operations, and large-scale exercises like Exercise Bharat Shakti. For defence aspirants, understanding the JLW is important as it represents the move towards jointness and integration in the Indian Armed Forces, a recurring theme in defence reforms and examination questions.
