What is IMG?

An International Medical Graduate (IMG) is a medical professional who has completed their medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a university outside India and seeks to practice medicine within the country. In India, the term is formally used by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and previously by the Medical Council of India (MCI). IMGs are required to pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), now known as the National Exit Test (NExT) for foreign graduates, to obtain registration and practice in India.
