Graduate Qualifying Test
Full Form of GQT
What is GQT?
The Graduate Qualifying Test (GQT) is an entrance examination conducted by certain Indian universities and autonomous colleges to assess the aptitude and subject knowledge of students seeking admission to postgraduate programs such as Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Arts (M.A.), or Master of Technology (M.Tech.). Unlike national-level tests like GATE or GRE, the GQT is typically institution-specific, allowing universities to independently screen candidates for their own departments. In India, it is most commonly used by state-funded universities and private deemed universities to fill seats in specialized courses where competition is moderate. The test usually covers topics from the candidate's undergraduate curriculum, along with general reasoning and analytical skills. Exams are held once a year, often in June or July, with results published within a month. For students aiming to pursue higher education within the same state or university system, the GQT provides a streamlined pathway, bypassing the need for multiple national exam registrations. While not as widely known as national tests, the GQT holds significant importance for regional academic mobility. It is especially relevant for candidates targeting research-focused institutions that prefer a tailored selection process over generic tests.
