What is NET?

The National Eligibility Test (NET) is a prestigious national-level entrance examination in India, conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the post of Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges, as well as for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The test is organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is held twice a year, typically in June and December, across various subjects spanning humanities, social sciences, commerce, management, sciences, and languages. Candidates who qualify for JRF are eligible to pursue research in their chosen subject and receive a monthly stipend, while those who qualify only for Assistant Professor eligibility can apply for teaching positions in higher education institutions.
