What is GMAT?
The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a standardized computer-adaptive exam designed to assess the analytical, quantitative, verbal, and integrated reasoning skills of candidates seeking admission to graduate business programs, particularly Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees worldwide. Administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the GMAT is widely accepted by over 7,000 programs at more than 2,300 business schools globally. In India, the GMAT is used by leading institutions such as the Indian School of Business (ISB), the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for specific programs like the Executive MBA, and several private business schools. Indian students also take the GMAT to apply to top international universities. The exam is conducted year-round at test centres in major Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai. Scores are reported on a scale of 200 to 800 and are valid for five years. For Indian aspirants aiming for global management careers or premier domestic programs, the GMAT is a crucial credential that demonstrates readiness for the rigours of business education. It is often compared to the CAT for Indian B-schools, but it holds unique importance for international applications and executive programmes.
