Village Facilitation Unit
Full Form of VFU
What is VFU?
A Village Facilitation Unit (VFU) is a grassroots-level service centre established in rural India to help villagers access various government schemes, financial services, and digital resources without having to travel to distant towns or city offices. These units act as a single-window interface between rural citizens and the administration, offering assistance with Aadhaar updates, bank account opening, pension applications, crop insurance, and other welfare programme registrations. In India, VFUs are often linked to Common Service Centres (CSCs) and are promoted by state governments in partnership with central ministries to strengthen last-mile delivery under the Digital India initiative. They play a particularly important role in tribal blocks, aspirational districts, and remote hamlets where awareness of schemes is low. For competitive exams such as UPSC, state PSCs, and IBPS, questions on rural governance, e-governance, and service delivery mechanisms frequently reference such units.
