Vivekananda Balakendra
Full Form of VBK
What is VBK?
Vivekananda Balakendra, commonly abbreviated as VBK, is a value-based education program designed for children across India, operated under the spiritual and administrative guidance of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Conceptualised in alignment with the educational ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the program focuses on nurturing the physical, mental, intellectual, and spiritual growth of children between the ages of 5 and 15. VBK centres typically function in the evenings or on weekends, often hosted in temples, schools, community halls, or Ramakrishna Mission premises, where trained volunteers conduct structured sessions. These include storytelling drawn from Indian epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata, yoga, devotional singing, personality development drills, games, and moral lessons rooted in Indian heritage. The initiative plays a meaningful role in character building and cultural preservation, instilling discipline, patriotism, and ethical values among young learners. With active presence in states including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, VBK has grown into a respected supplementary education movement. Knowledge of such organisations is occasionally useful for general awareness sections of competitive exams in India.
