Unexploded Bomb
Full Form of UXB
What is UXB?
UXB stands for Unexploded Bomb, a term used by military and security forces to describe any explosive device such as a bomb, shell, grenade, or mine that failed to detonate upon deployment or impact. In India, UXBs are a serious concern for the Indian Army, paramilitary forces like the CRPF, and the National Security Guard (NSG), which operate specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to locate, defuse, and safely destroy these devices. UXBs are commonly encountered during counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, the northeast, and during cordon and search operations in Naxal-affected areas. Civilian bomb disposal squads attached to state police also deal with recovered UXBs in cities and towns. The term appears frequently in defence news reports, internal communiqués, and after-action reviews. For aspirants preparing for UPSC CDS, NDA, AFCAT, or CAPF exams, understanding UXB terminology is useful for general knowledge and current affairs sections covering internal security, defence technology, and bomb disposal procedures.
