Unmanned Flying Vehicle
Full Form of UFV
What is UFV?
The Unmanned Flying Vehicle, commonly abbreviated as UFV, refers to an aircraft that operates without a human pilot onboard, controlled either remotely by an operator on the ground or through pre-programmed autonomous flight systems. In India, UFVs hold immense strategic importance within the defence sector, where the Indian Armed Forces, DRDO, and several private players are actively developing indigenous drone solutions for surveillance, reconnaissance, target acquisition, and tactical combat operations. The government has strongly promoted UFV technology through initiatives like iDEX, Make in India, and the Drone Shakti programme, encouraging startups and MSMEs to innovate in this space. Beyond defence, UFVs are widely used in Indian agriculture for crop spraying and monitoring, in disaster management for delivering medical supplies and surveying affected zones, and by police forces for crowd monitoring during large events. The liberalised Drone Rules 2021 have further accelerated commercial UFV operations across the country. For students, understanding this acronym is valuable when preparing for defence entrance exams, NDA, CDS, AFCAT, and UPSC technical interviews, where questions on modern aerospace and unmanned systems frequently appear.
