University Entry Scheme
Full Form of UES
What is UES?
The University Entry Scheme, commonly known as UES, is a prestigious recruitment programme conducted by the Indian Navy to induct technically qualified graduate engineers into its officer cadre. Launched to attract young engineering talent directly from campuses, the scheme allows final-year and pre-final-year engineering students from AICTE-recognised Indian universities to apply for a permanent commission in the Indian Navy. Shortlisted candidates undergo a rigorous selection process that includes a written examination, Service Selection Board interview covering psychological, group, and personal assessments, and a comprehensive medical examination. Successful candidates receive training at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala, after which they are commissioned as Sub-Lieutenants. The UES has been one of the most sought-after career paths for engineering graduates in India who wish to serve in the armed forces while continuing to apply their technical education. It is widely discussed during campus placements and is highly relevant for candidates preparing for defence examinations and engineering students exploring alternative career options beyond the private sector. Many defence aspirants start their UES preparation alongside their final year academic studies to maximise their chances of selection.
