What is UEQ?

The User Experience Questionnaire, commonly known as UEQ, is a standardised research instrument developed to measure the user experience of interactive products, software applications, and digital services. It assesses six key dimensions of user perception, namely attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, stimulation, and novelty, using twenty-six pairs of contrasting adjectives that respondents rate on a seven-point Likert scale. In India, UEQ has gained significant traction among product designers, usability researchers, and human-computer interaction scholars working in IT hubs such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai. Indian companies in the SaaS, fintech, edtech, and consumer electronics sectors routinely use the UEQ to benchmark their digital offerings against global competitors and to comply with international usability standards. The questionnaire is available in more than thirty languages, including several Indian regional languages, making it accessible for localised user testing across diverse user groups. Indian design institutes, IITs, and NITs incorporate the UEQ methodology into their UX curricula, postgraduate research, and usability testing projects.
