Human-Computer Interaction
Full Form of HCI
What is HCI?
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary field of study focusing on the design, evaluation, and implementation of interactive computing systems for human use. It combines principles from computer science, cognitive psychology, ergonomics, and design to make technology more accessible, efficient, and enjoyable. In India, HCI has gained significant traction with the rapid digitization of services like Aadhaar, UPI-based payments, and government portals. It is used extensively by software developers, UX designers, and researchers to create user-friendly interfaces for mobile apps, websites, and embedded systems. HCI principles are critical in designing for India’s diverse linguistic and cultural landscape, such as multilingual keyboards and low-bandwidth applications. The field is also a core part of computer science curricula in Indian institutes like IITs and NITs, and appears in GATE and UGC NET examinations under the topic of human-computer interaction. As India moves toward inclusive technology, HCI plays a pivotal role in bridging the digital divide, especially for rural and elderly users.
