Central Health Intelligence
Full Form of CHI
What is CHI?
Central Health Intelligence (CHI) is a specialized division under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Its primary function is to collect, collate, analyze, and disseminate health-related data and statistics from across the country. CHI plays a critical role in monitoring disease trends, tracking health indicators, assessing the burden of diseases, and evaluating the effectiveness of health programs. It serves as the central repository for national health statistics, including data on hospital admissions, mortality, morbidity, and disease outbreaks. The information generated by CHI is used by policymakers, public health officials, and researchers to design evidence-based health interventions, allocate resources, and plan national health missions such as the National Health Mission (NHM). CHI also publishes periodic reports like the Annual Health Statistics Report, which are important reference documents for academia and competitive examinations like UPSC, state PCS, and health officer exams. Its contributions are vital for India’s health surveillance system and for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health.
