Upper Age Limit
Full Form of UAL
What is UAL?
The Upper Age Limit, commonly abbreviated as UAL, refers to the maximum age that a candidate must not exceed in order to be eligible to apply for a particular government job, examination, or recruitment notification in India. Almost every government recruitment body in the country, including UPSC, SSC, IBPS, RRB, state public service commissions, and defence services, mentions a specific UAL along with a lower age limit and age relaxation criteria. The actual UAL varies depending on the post, category, and recruiting authority, often falling between 27 and 35 years for general category candidates. Reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and PwD receive additional age relaxation as per government norms. Understanding the UAL is critical because exceeding the prescribed limit leads to immediate disqualification of the application, regardless of qualifications. For aspirants preparing for competitive exams, calculating age accurately against the UAL cut-off date is one of the first eligibility checks before filling any form.
