Total Triiodothyronine
Full Form of TTN
What is TTN?
Total Triiodothyronine, commonly abbreviated as TTN, is a thyroid function test that measures the total amount of triiodothyronine hormone circulating in the bloodstream. Triiodothyronine is one of the two primary hormones produced by the thyroid gland located in the neck, and it plays a critical role in regulating metabolism, body temperature, heart rate, and energy levels throughout the body. In India, doctors routinely prescribe the TTN test along with TSH and T4 to evaluate patients showing symptoms of thyroid disorders such as unexplained weight changes, persistent fatigue, hair loss, menstrual irregularities, or sudden mood swings. The test is widely available across pathology labs like Thyrocare, Dr. Lal PathLabs, SRL Diagnostics, and government hospitals at affordable prices ranging from one hundred fifty to five hundred rupees. Normal TTN values typically fall between eighty to two hundred nanograms per decilitre in adults, though reference ranges may vary slightly between laboratories. Medical students preparing for NEET PG, AIIMS, or other competitive exams should remember that TTN helps diagnose both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism effectively.
