Total Joint Prosthesis
Full Form of TJP
What is TJP?
Total Joint Prosthesis, commonly abbreviated as TJP, refers to a surgical implant used to replace a damaged or diseased joint with an artificial prosthesis made of metal, ceramic, or plastic components. The procedure is performed on major weight-bearing joints such as the hip, knee, and shoulder, helping patients regain mobility and reduce chronic pain caused by conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, or severe fractures. In India, TJP surgeries have grown significantly over the past two decades due to rising cases of degenerative joint diseases, longer life expectancy, and greater awareness of advanced orthopaedic treatments. Leading hospitals in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune perform thousands of these procedures annually, supported by both government schemes like Ayushman Bharat and private insurance coverage. Indian orthopaedic surgeons and biomedical engineers are also developing cost-effective indigenous prosthesis designs. TJP is highly relevant for medical students preparing for NEET-PG, AIIMS, and PGI entrance examinations, where orthopaedics carries substantial weight in the syllabus.
