What is SZR?

The Sub-Zone Reserve (SZR) is a military logistics and administrative term widely used in the Indian Armed Forces to refer to a designated stockpile of resources, equipment, and supplies maintained within a sub-zone of a military command. Each operational command in the Indian Army is divided into multiple sub-zones, and each sub-zone maintains its own reserve to ensure rapid response during operations, emergencies, or wartime mobilisation. These reserves typically include ammunition, fuel, rations, medical supplies, and spare parts for vehicles and critical equipment. The SZR plays an important role in maintaining operational readiness along India's vast and varied borders, including the Line of Actual Control and the Line of Control. It allows field commanders to access critical supplies without waiting for reinforcements from rear depots, thereby reducing response time considerably.
