Squadron
Full Form of SQN
What is SQN?
A Squadron, abbreviated as SQN, is a standard military unit formation used across air, naval, and ground forces worldwide, including the Indian Armed Forces. In the Indian Air Force, a squadron typically consists of 12 to 18 aircraft along with pilots, ground crew, and support staff, forming the basic operational flying unit. The Indian Air Force has numerous active squadrons stationed at air bases across the country, each assigned specific roles such as fighter, transport, reconnaissance, or helicopter operations. The term is also used in the Indian Navy to denote a group of similar ships, and in the Army to describe armoured or infantry sub-units. Squadrons are commanded by a Squadron Leader in the Air Force or equivalent officers in other services. For aspirants preparing for CDS, NDA, AFCAT, and other defence entrance examinations, understanding the hierarchy and structure of squadrons in the IAF, Navy, and Army forms a fundamental part of general knowledge and defence awareness sections.
