Special Forces Group
Full Form of SFG
What is SFG?
The Special Forces Group, commonly abbreviated as SFG, refers to elite military units trained to conduct specialised, high-risk operations such as counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, reconnaissance behind enemy lines, and unconventional warfare. In the Indian defence context, the term is closely associated with the parachute regiment, which has produced some of the most decorated soldiers in the country. The SFG operates under the Indian Army and is known for its rigorous selection process, demanding physical fitness standards, and expertise in handling advanced weaponry, demolition, and survival techniques in harsh terrains ranging from deserts to high-altitude mountains. Members are trained to carry out covert missions, gather battlefield intelligence, and support conventional forces during critical operations. The unit has played significant roles in various internal security operations and has contributed to international peacekeeping missions under the United Nations. For Indian students preparing for defence entrance examinations such as the NDA, CDS, or AFCAT, understanding the structure and function of elite units like the SFG remains important, as questions related to special forces frequently appear in the general knowledge sections of these competitive tests.
