The Special Frontier Force (SFF), also known as the Establishment 22, is a paramilitary special forces unit operating under the Cabinet Secretariat of India. Raised in 1962 during the Sino-Indian War, it was originally composed of Tibetan refugees trained by the Intelligence Bureau to conduct guerrilla warfare and reconnaissance missions along the Himalayan border. Over the decades, the SFF has evolved into a highly trained, multi-ethnic force involved in counter-insurgency, high-altitude warfare, and internal security operations.
