Subhadra Bhandar Nidhi
Full Form of SBN
What is SBN?
SBN stands for Subhadra Bhandar Nidhi, a flagship welfare scheme launched by the Government of Odisha in September 2024 under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Named after Goddess Subhadra, the sister of Lord Jagannath, the scheme is designed to empower women financially and promote gender equality across the state. Under this initiative, eligible women receive ₹10,000 annually in two instalments of ₹5,000 each, transferred directly to their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. The primary objective of SBN is to support women's economic independence, strengthen their role within families, and uplift households belonging to economically weaker sections, especially in rural and tribal regions of Odisha. Women aged between 21 and 60 years who are permanent residents of the state and meet the income criteria can apply through the official Subhadra portal. The scheme covers nearly one crore women in its initial rollout phase. For aspirants preparing for Odisha state competitive exams, SSC, UPSC, and banking examinations, understanding SBN is highly relevant as it reflects the current emphasis on women-centric welfare programmes and inclusive grassroots development in Indian governance.
