Renminbi
Full Form of RMB
What is RMB?
The Renminbi, abbreviated as RMB, is the official currency of the People's Republic of China, issued and regulated by the People's Bank of China. The basic monetary unit is called the yuan, which is why the currency is also internationally known as CNY. In India, RMB holds considerable importance because China is one of the country's largest bilateral trading partners, and several Indian banks offer RMB-denominated accounts and trade settlement services to exporters and importers dealing with Chinese firms. Indian travellers, students, and business professionals frequently exchange rupees for RMB before visiting China, and the exchange rate is tracked daily on Indian financial platforms. In recent years, India has also explored using RMB for trade settlement with Russia and other sanctioned economies, giving the currency fresh strategic relevance. The distinction between RMB and yuan is a frequently asked question in competitive examinations such as UPSC, RBI Grade B, and other banking tests that cover international finance, foreign exchange reserves, and global trade mechanisms.
