Rural Health Mission
Full Form of RHM
What is RHM?
The Rural Health Mission (RHM) is a key initiative by the Government of India aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure and services in rural and underserved areas. Launched as part of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in 2005, the RHM focuses on reducing infant and maternal mortality, improving access to primary healthcare, and addressing communicable and non-communicable diseases. It operates through a network of Sub-Centres, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Community Health Centres (CHCs), and is implemented in partnership with state governments. The mission also emphasizes community participation through accredited social health activists (ASHAs) and village health committees. RHM is predominantly used in policy documents, government reports, and discussions among public health professionals in India. For students appearing in competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, or state PSCs, understanding RHM is crucial as questions often appear on rural health schemes and their impact. The mission has significantly contributed to improving health indicators in rural India, though challenges like resource constraints and workforce shortages persist.
