Reproductive and Child Health
Full Form of RCH
What is RCH?
Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) is a flagship public health program in India, launched under the National Health Mission (NHM) in 1997. It aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality, promote family planning, and provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare services. The program operates across all states and union territories, integrating with primary health centers (PHCs), community health centers (CHCs), and district hospitals. RCH focuses on antenatal care, safe delivery, postnatal care, immunization, and management of reproductive tract infections. It also addresses adolescent health and contraception. In India, RCH is critical for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 (good health and well-being). Government initiatives like Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) are part of the RCH framework. The program is frequently referenced in competitive exams like UPSC, state PSCs, and nursing/medical entrance tests, making it essential for aspirants in healthcare and public administration.
