Quick Reaction Team
Full Form of QRT
What is QRT?
A Quick Reaction Team (QRT) is a specialized unit within Indian police and paramilitary forces, such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police, designed to respond rapidly to emergencies like riots, terrorist attacks, hostage situations, and natural disasters. QRTs are trained in advanced combat tactics, crowd control, and rapid deployment, often using armored vehicles and modern communication equipment. In India, QRTs play a critical role in maintaining public order during volatile situations, especially in regions affected by insurgency or communal violence. They are distinct from regular patrol units because they remain on standby for immediate mobilisation, often reaching incident sites within minutes. The term is widely used in official police reports, training manuals, and media coverage of law enforcement operations. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and state police recruitment, understanding the role of QRTs is relevant in the context of internal security and disaster management. QRTs also collaborate with anti-terror squads and intelligence agencies to neutralise threats swiftly, making them an essential component of India’s security framework.
