Passenger Reservation Request
Full Form of PRR
What is PRR?
The Passenger Reservation Request (PRR) is the official request form used by Indian Railways to book train tickets. It can be submitted online via the IRCTC website or mobile app, or at railway reservation counters. Upon submission, the PRR system checks seat availability across various classes—Sleeper, AC 3-tier, AC 2-tier, First AC, Chair Car, and more. It allocates berths based on passenger preferences and quota systems, such as general, ladies, senior citizen, and tatkal. The system generates a unique PNR number that tracks the booking status: confirmed, RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation), or waitlisted. PRR is essential for managing the high demand during festive seasons and holidays. It also handles cancellations and modifications, with specific refund rules. For railway recruitment exams, knowledge of PRR is crucial as it covers practical aspects of ticketing and reservation procedures. The system is integrated with real-time data, ensuring transparency and efficiency. Understanding PRR helps aspirants answer questions on chart preparation, quota management, and passenger services. With over 23 million daily passengers, the PRR system is a backbone of Indian Railways' operations, ensuring fair and systematic allocation of accommodation. Its continuous evolution with digital platforms has made train travel accessible and user-friendly.
