Proof of Identity
Full Form of POI
What is POI?
Proof of Identity (POI) refers to an official document that verifies an individual's identity, commonly required for financial, governmental, and administrative processes in India. It is a mandatory component of the Know Your Customer (KYC) norms enforced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and other regulatory bodies. POI documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, passport, and driving license. These documents are used when opening bank accounts, applying for loans, purchasing insurance, getting a SIM card, or accessing government services. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made Aadhaar a widely accepted POI due to its biometric verification. In competitive exams like IBPS PO, SSC, and UPSC, questions often test knowledge of valid POI documents and KYC regulations. Understanding POI is crucial for compliance with anti-money laundering laws and ensuring secure transactions. The term is also used in everyday contexts such as hotel check-ins, employment verification, and digital signatures.
