Pre-Medical Test
Full Form of PMT
What is PMT?
The Pre-Medical Test (PMT) is a common entrance examination in India for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical and dental courses such as MBBS and BDS. Historically, PMT referred to state-level or institution-specific exams conducted before the national-level NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) was introduced in 2013. In the Indian context, PMT is often used interchangeably with medical entrance exams, though NEET is now the sole gateway for medical admissions across the country. The exam tests knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, typically at the 10+2 level. PMT was widely administered by states like Uttar Pradesh (UPMT), Rajasthan, and others, as well as by private medical colleges. Today, the term PMT is still used informally by students, coaching centres, and in older reference materials. For exam preparation, students often seek PMT past papers and coaching resources. While NEET has replaced most PMTs, some private institutions continue to use the term for their own entrance tests. Understanding PMT is crucial for historical context in medical education discussions, and questions about its evolution often appear in general knowledge sections of competitive exams like UPSC and banking.
