Post Graduate Programme
Full Form of PGP
What is PGP?
The Post Graduate Programme (PGP) is a flagship management course offered by premier Indian business schools, most notably the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). It is a two-year residential programme designed to develop future business leaders through rigorous academic training, case studies, and industry exposure. Although functionally equivalent to an MBA, Indian regulatory norms require IIMs to award a postgraduate diploma rather than a degree, hence the term PGP is used. The programme covers core areas such as finance, marketing, strategy, operations, and human resources, along with elective specializations. Admissions are highly competitive and based on scores from the Common Admission Test (CAT), followed by written ability tests and personal interviews. PGP is also offered by other top B-schools like XLRI Jamshedpur (PGDM) and FMS Delhi, though the nomenclature may vary. The programme is intensely sought after by engineering and commerce graduates aiming for high-paying careers in consulting, banking, and technology. For exams like CAT, a good percentile is crucial for securing a seat. PGP remains the gold standard of management education in India, with alumni leading major corporations and startups worldwide.
