Open Network for Education
Full Form of ONE
What is ONE?
The Open Network for Education (ONE) is a digital public infrastructure initiative envisioned under India's National Education Policy 2020 to create an interoperable, open ecosystem for learning. ONE aims to connect various educational platforms, content providers, assessment tools, and credentialing systems into a unified network, enabling seamless access to quality education for students, teachers, and institutions across the country. It operates on a federated architecture, allowing diverse players—from edtech startups to government portals like DIKSHA and SWAYAM—to integrate and share resources without being locked into a single platform. The initiative promotes discoverability, portability of learning data, and personalized learning pathways. In India, ONE is being developed by the Ministry of Education and the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF) to bridge digital divides and support the goals of universal access and lifelong learning. Use of ONE is expected to grow as more states and institutions adopt open standards, particularly in school and higher education. For competitive exams like UGC NET and CTET, understanding ONE is relevant as it represents a key reform under NEP 2020, often featured in education policy questions.
